From Fundamental Concepts to Advanced Chemistry

Chemistry tuition can be delivered through to the core topics of Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry, which is delivered at GCSE and A Level.

The content of lessons will vary depending upon the course and could incorporate: atomic structure, bonding, periodic table, moles and calculations, chemical equations, acids and bases, energetics, rates of reaction, equilibrium, organic chemistry, and redox processes together with practical skills.

The tutor can look beyond the content of each module and help students understand how various aspects of Chemistry are related to each other.

For instance, particles and bonding may be easier to explain given the understanding of chemical reactions and equations may be easier to work with later in terms of quantitative calculations.

Students can also use worked examples and exam style questions to practise applying their knowledge.

This enables tutors to determine the area(s) in which the student is at ease and is able to provide further explanation or practice in the area(s) that need(s) such help.

Why Do Students Need Expert Chemistry Support?

Chemistry is more than science facts. Students should be able to: Understand concepts, Interpret information, Carry out calculations and apply their knowledge to various question types.

Sometimes a small error made in one topic can make later topics difficult to follow.

A Chemistry Tutor Bristol can help students pinpoint these areas and cover them in a non-urgent way.

Lessons have the ability to break down complex concepts into smaller steps and provide students with opportunities to apply them in smaller steps so that they get more comfortable with the concepts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Chemistry tutoring be tailored to my exam board?

Yes. Pupils can talk to their tutor about their specific course and syllabus and lessons can focus on the topics and skills for their course. This can be particularly helpful when approaching tests where students have to grasp the requirements of their particular course.

What if I am good at theory but struggle with Chemistry questions?

Theory and application of the theory to a question do not necessarily go together. A tutor can practise with you interpreting questions, identify relevant information, select an appropriate method and clearly explain your answer. This can make the “lift” to applying the concepts more natural over time.

Can tutoring help with Chemistry practicals?

Tutors can explain the scientific principles involved in any practical work such as variables, measurement, observation, results and evaluation. They can also facilitate students' comprehension of the theoretical background for experiments and practice of questions involving the interpretation of practical data.

How can I prepare for A-Level Chemistry if GCSE topics are still difficult?

It may be helpful to reinforce the GCSE ideas that are necessary for further work before going too far. A tutor will be able to check which of the foundations you need to work on and will help you to review these before gradually building up the more challenging concepts needed at A-Level.

Can I have Chemistry tutoring even if I am not currently struggling?

Yes. Students may utilize tutoring to reinforce learning, work on more advanced questions, fall behind on schoolwork or review for future tests. Lessons can be modified to match the student's current ability and not their assumed ability.
